On Sunday, October 2, 2005, we had our first worship service at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Our location was 1510 N. Rockwell Avenue in the Rockglen Center, in Bethany, Oklahoma. There were 27 in attendance and we raised $142.70 for offering. Rev. Hooks’ sermon was entitled “A Purpose Driven Church”, taken from Matthew 16:13-19.There were three attendees who came for prayer and three who came for membership. Bro. and Sis. Royce Bible joined the Saturday before (October 1) but officially joined on this first Sunday. Bro. Ron Caauwe also joined this first Sunday. We had our first food ministry when we served hot dogs on Saturday, October 1, 2005. We met and ministered to several people.

 

On Tuesday, October 4, 2005 Mt. Moriah had its first Bible study and prayer service. Rev. Hooks taught from the book of Isaiah.

 

We had our church name and logo painted on our church windows the next week so people could see where we were located while passing by or driving by on the street.

 

We had our church organization service on Tuesday, October 11,2005 which made Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church official. Council members were: Rev. Ronald Boyd of Antioch Baptist Church in Duncan, Rev. F.E. Burroughs of Greater Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, and Dr. Moses Howard of Greater Marshall Memorial Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. We had six charter members: Sis. Phyllis Jackson, Sis. Crystal Colbert, Bro. James Franklin, Bro. Royce Bible, Sis. Marcena Hooks, and Rev. Larry D. Hooks, II.

 

On Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 7:00 p.m., Mt. Moriah gave everything back to God that He so blessed them with through a Dedication Service. Rev. Ronald Boyd of Antioch Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma brought the message. This was also a fundraising effort and the church raised $303.00.

 

As an alternative to Halloween, Mt. Moriah hosted Hallelujah Night on Monday, October 31, 2005. The special focus was on the children, to give them a safe and spiritual environment and provide an atmosphere that was fun. We served approximately 50 people and had games, food, and fun.

 

The church Bible Power Hour (better known as Sunday School) began on Sunday, November 6, 2005.That same Sunday we started serving meals after morning worship. This was thought of by the Pastor, as a way for the church family to fellowship after worship service and he designated that meals will be served every 1st and 3rd Sunday.

 

On Saturday, November 12, 2005, Mt. Moriah started a community service project with the Ford Center, working the concession stands at the Hornets basketball games. Five members participated: James Franklin, Crystal Colbert, Phyllis Jackson, Marcena Hooks, and Pastor Hooks. This was the first of many Ford Center events we participated in.

 

On Sunday, November 13, 2005, Pastor Hooks baptized Bro. Royce Bible, using the baptismal facilities at the Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 2700 N. Rockwell, where Rev. L.D. Ellis is the Pastor. This was the first baptism for Mt. Moriah.

 

On Sunday, November 20, 2005 Mt. Moriah hosted its first Thanksgiving Dinner. We fed approximately 20 people.

 

On Sunday, November 27, 2005, Mt. Moriah had its first evening service. There were 24 in attendance and Rev. Hooks preached about the Prayer of Jabez. That Sunday morning, Rev. Hooks announced that Minister Jeremy Jackson had accepted the role as our Youth Pastor.

 

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Antioch Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma donated a church bus to Mt. Moriah.

 

On Saturday, December 31, 2005 two area churches, in conjunction with Mt. Moriah, participated in Watch Meeting service to celebrate the New Year. The host church was the Macedonia Baptist Church where Rev. L.D. Ellis is pastor. In addition, the Calvary Baptist Church, where Rev.Willie McLemore is pastor, fellowshipped with us.

 

On January 21, 2006, Mt. Moriah became a member of the National Missionary Baptist Convention.

 

On Sunday, January 22, 2006, Rev. Larry D. Hooks, II was installed as Pastor of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Installation service guests were the Greater Marshall Memorial Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. Moses Howard, Jr. is Pastor. Rev. Hooks previously served as an Associate Minister at Greater Marshall Memorial and as Youth Pastor there. Other special guest pastors were Rev. F.E. Burroughs, of our sister church Greater Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, who gave the Charge to the Pastor. Pastor K.C. Grandberry of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Ft. Worth, Texas gave the Charge to the Church and also brought the message that Sunday morning.

 

 

From August 18-20, 2006 Pastor Hooks completed the training for Southern Baptist.  Mt. Moriah became apart of the Capital Baptist Association and Southern Baptist Convention as a mission status church.  Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Joe McLemore agreed to become our sponsoring church. and January 2007 we began recieving support. 

 

On Saturday, September 16, 2006 our District Congress was held at Emmanuel Baptist Church. This was the first District Meeting where Pastor Hooks served as Dean of the Congress. Sis. Vertina Long taught a class on the Pastor’s Aid Committee and Pastor Hooks brought the afternoon message.

 

December 3rd, 2006 we relocated to 1421 N Meridian to share a building with Meridian Ave Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Mike Murphy.

 

Within our first year, God has truly anointed and blessed this ministry. We have taken in over 200 members and conducted many weddings. During this year, we have developed our bible study, singles ministry, marriage enrichment, youth department, women’s department, brotherhood, choir, pastor’s aid, and planning committe.
